BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The funeral for Helen Marie Lee will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, with the Rev. Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Burial will be in Blooming Prairie City Cemetery.
Mrs. Lee, 93, a longtime resident of the Blooming Prairie area, died Sunday (June 22, 2008) at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie. She had been a resident of the care center since September 2004.
Helen Hargefeld was born March 22, 1915, in Claremont, where she grew up and attended school. She married Clarence Lee on April 11, 1934, at the St. Olaf parsonage in Austin. The couple made their home in the Blooming Prairie area and reared five children. One son, Clyde, was killed in Vietnam in 1967. The family moved to Blooming Prairie in 1968.
Mrs. Lee was a cook at St. James Military Academy in Faribault, Minn., Owatonna State School, and Cedarview Nursing Home in Owatonna. She was a Gold Star Mother and member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, and Royal Neighbors. She loved baking, canning fruits and vegetables, making rugs and lap robes, embroidery and gardening.

She is survived by three daughters, Maxine Sorenson of Owatonna, Barbara (Leighton) Nelson of Rochester and Verna Kubat of Blooming Prairie; a son, Curtis of Owatonna; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Hargefeld. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 26, 1986, a son, a sister and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Blooming Prairie Funeral Home.
