Herman William Hartwig Kohnke -- Lyle

LYLE -- The funeral for Herman William Hartwig Kohnke will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Burial will be in the Osage, Iowa, Cemetery with military graveside rites by Lyle American Legion Post 105.

Mr. Kohnke, 60, of Lyle, a farmer, died Tuesday (March 12, 2002) at his home.

Born April 25, 1941, in Postville, Iowa, he was a 1959 graduate of Lyle High School. From 1960 to 1964, he served in the Army, including two years in Germany with the 595th Transportation Company. After the service he farmed and was a truck driver, and in later years farmed near Otranto, Iowa. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Mona, Iowa, and Lyle American Legion Post 105. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include a son, Jay (Shelly) of Austin; a grandson; his mother, Elsa Kohnke of Osage; and a brother, John (Pauline) of Glenville, Minn. He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
