Mabel-Canton star Karlie Urbaniak broke a school record Thursday in the team's win over LeRoy-Ostrander. Urbaniak entered the night needing five kills to tie Molly Horihan's record of 1,210. She finished with 16 kills to establish the record. She now has 1,221 kills. On the same night, M-C's Brittany Pierce got her 2,000th set assist. She's just the second Mabel-Canton girl to do that. Shelby Bigalk, a 2002 graduate, was the first.
Elgin-Millville senior Candace Olstad recorded kill No. 1,000 in helping the Watchmen to a 25-12, 25-13, 25-14 win over Fillmore Central. Olstad had 29 kills in the match.
Cross country
Rochester Lourdes runner Mike Torchia showed why he's the top-ranked Class A runner in the state Thursday by winning the 12-team Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo Invitational in a personal-best time of 15:20. The Lourdes boys finished four points behind first-place Winona Cotter.
Blooming Prairie's Ian Campbell's time of 16:41 was a school record

The Lourdes girls team won the ZMKW race with four runners in the top 10. Only 1:17 separated all seven runners in the young team's best showing of the season to date. Claire Rieder had the top finish, ending up fourth with a time 15:52.
