-- Kahler Corp. is planning $20.5 million in hotel expansions. Three Rochester projects are being considered and the most likely to get underway next year is a $5.5 million, 100-room economy hotel on the site of the former Textile Care Services laundry.

-- The annual Fall Foliage Run sponsored by the Drifters Car Club of Rochester raised money for Channel One. More than 150 cars traveled to Red Wing and back during the rally.

1969 – 50 years ago

-- Beautiful, resilient and luxurious shag carpet is on sale for $7.95 per sq. yd. at Harnack’s Furniture Carpet store on South Broadway.

-- The television lineup this evening includes Glen Campbell Hour, The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, Room 222, and Hawaii Five-O.

-- The No. 1 polka band Six Fat Dutchman will be playing Wednesday night at the Pla-Mor Ballroom.

1944 – 75 years ago

-- Miss Maude Gregory, a former Rochester resident, related her experiences in a construction camp in Alaska at the meeting of the Pro-Biz Club of which she is a charter member. She has worked in the office of the public roads administration on the Alcan Highway construction since July, 1943. She remarked about the beautiful midnight sunsets and the joy of eating fresh salmon she had just caught herself.

-- Persons who ride bicycles to the business district are being asked by Chief of Police to use the five new bike racks that just have been painted and set up for bicycle parking.

1919 – 100 years ago

-- Rochester school teachers are asking for an increase in salaries to meet the high cost of living in the city, last evening at the meeting of the school board. Supt. H. A. Johnson is in support and believes that every good teacher employed by the school system should have a living wage.
