Wolverine wins Hobey Baker

DENVER — Michigan’s Kevin Porter won the Hobey Baker Memorial Award on Friday night, a day after his team was eliminated in the Frozen Four semifinals.

The senior captain beat out Boston College’s Nathan Gerbe and Miami of Ohio’s Ryan Jones for hockey’s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

"This is an amazing honor and a great award," Porter said. "But our main goal here was to come and win a national championship. We’re still disappointed about last night."

Porter and the Wolverines had their season come to an end with a 5-4 overtime loss to Notre Dame on Thursday night.

He finished the season with 33 goals and 30 assists, and became just the second Wolverines player to win the award, joining Brendan Morrison (1997).
