MAYO 4, FARIBAULT 1
Spartans get first ‘W’
FARIBAULT — Rochester Mayo picked up its first victory of the season, and started Big Nine Conference play by topping Faribault.
Faribault opened the scoring early in the first period, but Mary Grace Flesher scored with an assist from Alyssa Weise to tie it after the first.
Nelson scored twice in the third period and Flesher added an empty-net goal late to cap the scoring.
Weise finished with two assists, while Flesher and Anna Billings had one each.
Nelson and Weise each snapped four-game scoring droughts, which coach Jeff Phillips said is a big emotional lift for the duo.
"We set three team goals: To get a lot of shots on net, deny them time in our zone and play with 100 percent energy," Phillips said. "They met all three of these goals which was key to our win (Tuesday). We got great effort from all three lines."
D. COUNTY 9, M. EAST 1
MANKATO — Dodge County scored a 9-1 win over Mankato East, using four first-period goals to put the game away early.
Kortney Kleber, Tara Rasmussen, Darby Dodds and Alaina Pappas each had goals in that first period.
Rasmussen and Pappas finished with two goals each. Taryn Wohlfiel got two assists for Dodge County.
Dodge County out-shot Mankato East 54-5.
