HOM ACCENTS Matter of time

Tick tock, the hour is near. It's time to turn your clocks back one hour. Daylight-saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday.

No one has an accurate picture of the clock as we know it today, though clock historians claim the first timepieces existed 5,000 to 6,000 years ago when civilizations in the Middle East and North Africa began to look at forms of clock-making instead of relying on monthly or yearly calendars. The first mechanical clocks came along in the 14th century.

How many clocks do we own? A lot if we have one in every bedroom to get us up on time and certainly there is one in every kitchen. Elsewhere in the house we most likely have a desk clock, plus a decorative clock or two in other living spaces.

As we move into the darkest days of the year, we can cheer up with these time pieces from Simpler Time (Galleria), Pier 1, Hobby Lobby and TJ Maxx.
