Rochester police arrested three men this morning for allegedly trying to break into a home as the homeowner attempted to keep them out.
According to Capt. Brian Winters, officers responded about 2:40 a.m. to a burglary in progress at a home in the 800 block of Eighth Avenue Southeast.
The homeowner told police he heard pounding on a door. About the time he got to the door, a men had smashed a window in the door and reached in to unlock the door. The homeowner said the man had a gun in his hand and as he wrestled with the man's arm to keep him from unlocking the door, the gun dropped to the floor.
All three suspects fled in a car and were apprehended by police. One of the men is a 26-year-old from Rochester. The others are ages 29 and 33. Winters said the 33-year-old man was allegedly the one who tried to get through the door and he cut his arm.
Winters said the gun at the scene was a replica and that officers found another replica gun in the suspects' car.
