The Rochester Honkers have signed two players from the University of Iowa for the 2002 Northwoods League season: outfielder Kyle Thousand and pitcher Steve Sharpe.
Thousand is a 6-foot-2 sophmore outfielder from Sioux City, Iowa, and is currently batting .312 with five doubles, five triples and seven RBIs. As a freshman last year at the University of South Dakota, he hit .310 with 27 RBIs. Last year he sat out with a medical red shirt at Iowa State.
Sharpe, a 6-1 junior right-hander from Kansas, is currently 3-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 28 innings. He started nine games as a sophomore, with 20 strikeouts in 23 innings.
