HORMEL HOME COL Costumes welcome at annual card party

Get your scary costumes out; bring your appetite and your luck.

Our second annual Halloween card party and lunch is Oct. 29. You can sign up an entire table, or call us individually, and we can set you up with other bridge or 500 players.

You do not have to be a Hormel Home member to participate. Lunch will be served at noon; the gaming will begin after dessert.

Prizes will be awarded for best costumes. Tickets are $8. Call 433-4243 for information.

Christmas open house

Our Christmas open house will be Nov. 19-22.

This year's theme is "Christmas with the Hormels" and once again will include the Gerard facility, the former home of Jay and Germaine Hormel. The Hormel Home has a self-guided tour with docents in each room, whereas Gerard offers a guided tour. You'll want to plan about an hour at each of the homes.

Refreshments will be served at both places. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 13 years old. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. Stop at the H.H.H. to buy advanced tickets. Transportation is not provided.

We have many local vendors lined up for the room decorating at both homes. It seems each year their themes get more elaborate and more beautiful!

This event is a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit, as well as a good way to show off two of Austin's finest homes. If you haven't been to our open house before, you'll want to come this year.

Travel notes with Evie Mohrfeld

Nov. 4 is the date for the Old Log Dinner Theater in Excelsior. Reservations for this trip are due now. This year's comedy is "Tom, Dick &; Harry." We will have smoked pork chops for lunch. However, you can request walleye for a small extra fee.

Their plays have been a tradition with our travelers. We always go in November, and occasionally we take in another show since the performances change through the year.

It's a favorite spot for me. They offer options other theaters do not, such as choose-your-own seating and "aids" for those that who hard of hearing.

Lunch on the enclosed patio is always tasty and generous. This trip is filled, but I suggest you get on the waiting list as there are often last-minute cancellations.

Branson trip: The tours set for Nov. 15-19 and Nov. 21-24 are filled, but a waiting list is welcome because there are no refunds given after the payment due date.

I am working on travel for 2005. If you have an idea, let me know. I look into all suggestions. The Guthrie Theater has been suggested several times as a day-trip option. Let us know if this one interests you or if you have other travel suggestions.

Call me at 438-3946 any time. I am in on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
