How much corn can a corn husker husk?

Corn huskers should plan to gather on the morning of Sept. 23 on the Gerken farm near Oak Center to test their skills against others at stripping the husk from an ear of corn.

Registration for the Minnesota State Corn Husking Contest begins at 8:30 a.m. that Saturday at the Gerken farm, which is about one mile east of Oak Center on 345th Avenue. Oak Center is about 25 miles north of Rochester on U.S. Highway 63. There are nine competition categories based on age and sex.

The winners will be eligible to compete in the National Corn Husking Contest in October in Columbus, Neb.

The event is part of the Seventh Annual Corn Shredding and Autumn Harvest Days on Sept. 23 and 24. There will be demonstrations of threshing and corn shredding in addition to other displays.
