WATERLOO, Iowa -- The union that represents workers at IBP Inc. voted overwhelmingly Friday to approve a new contract offer.
The vote came a week after local workers rejected an earlier offer.
Eighty-one percent of the members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 431 voted to ratify the latest contract offer from parent company Tyson Foods.
The offer was put to a vote after company and union negotiators reached a tentative deal Thursday.

"We never get all we want. But the vote was overwhelming with 81 percent, so it was better than the alternative," said John Honeycutt, president of the local.
The contract will run through Dec. 31, 2006.
