NORTHFIELD, Minn. — An instructor at St. Olaf College has resigned after admitting he stole campaign signs supporting Republican John McCain.

Philip Busse was a visiting instructor and taught a media studies course at the college.

In a written statement this week, St. Olaf officials said Busse was no longer affiliated with St. Olaf.

Rice County Sheriff Richard Cook says Busse will also be charged with misdemeanor theft.

Busse wrote about the thefts on Huffington Post, a liberal news Web site and blog, in a post dated Thursday.

He earlier expressed remorse for his actions, calling them "immature."
