ROCHESTER, Minn.- John and Kathleen Meyer didn't leave their first trip to the Minnesota Angus Breeders Sale empty-handed.
The couple made the winning bid of $2,300 for Viewlawn New Frontier 520, a bull from Miller's Viewlawn Farms of Mabel.
The sale was held March 23 on the Olmsted County Fairgrounds in Rochester. It was sponsored by Minnesota Angus breeders. Tom Burke, of American Angus Hall of Fame, was the sale manager.
New Frontier will be the seventh bull on the Meyer's beef cattle and crop farm in Dorchester, Iowa. They have a 150-cow herd and grow corn, soybeans and alfalfa.
"He's a nice, deep bull," said John.

The Meyers have purchased from Viewlawn Farms in the past. John liked New Frontier's disposition.
Rated to sire calves with a higher than average birth weight, the Meyers plan to breed him only to mature cows and finish the calves.
"They have very good cattle here," John noted at the sale.
Jerry Wilde, another Dorchester resident, attended the sale for the first time. He purchased a yearling bull, DF Lookout 0287, for $2,200 from Drysdale Angus Farm of Wabasha.
Wilde has a registered Angus cow-calf operation.Lookout caught his eye as having a good disposition, all-around balance and good meat quality.
