EYOTA -- The funeral for Irene E. Riser will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota, with the Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Dover.
Mrs. Riser, 89, of Eyota, a retired teacher, died Saturday (Oct, 16, 2004) at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, Wis.
Irene Elenora Richter was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Dover, attended Elmira Elementary School in rural Olmsted County and graduated from Dover High School in 1933. She attended Normal School in St. Charles for a year and received a bachelor's degree from Winona State University. She lived in the Dover-Eyota area all her life. On June 29, 1938, she married Harold J. Riser at Elmira Church in rural Olmsted County. He died March 5, 1965. She taught for 37 years, including at Dover-Eyota Elementary Schools from 1955 to 1981. In 1981, she was grand marshal for the Eyota Days Parade, was named teacher of the year in 1981 and in 1995 was Senior Citizen Queen in Eyota. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota and the Eastern Star. Her interests included reading, traveling and playing cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne "Vonnie" (Verne) Shea of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; a son, Wayne H. of Madison, Wis.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Marvin Richter of Ceres, Calif. An infant son preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the church from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and an hour before the service Wednesday.
