Irene H. Brekke Trygstad -- Rochester

ROCHESTER -- A memorial service for Irene H. Brekke Trygstad will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell, with the Rev. Kathryn L. Gauger officiating. A spring burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Trygstad, 85, of Rochester, died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2005) at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester.

Irene Helen Scheitel was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Echo, Minn. On March 7, 1941, she married Victor Brekke at East St. Olaf Church parsonage. He died March 10, 1985. On Aug. 19, 1985, she married Lester Trygstad at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He died Jan. 9, 1997. Mrs. Trygstad lived most of her life in the Rock Dell area. She attended Winona Teacher's College and taught in a one-room country school. She was a member of East St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where she was church historian, a Sunday school teacher, and active in Ladies' Aid and Faith Circle. She was a member of Rock Dell Elementary School Mothers' Club, a 4-H leader and Spelling Bee Champion of Olmsted County. She enjoyed needle work, quilting, painting, crossword puzzles, bread baking and genealogy.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Chrs of Albert Lea, Linda (Paul) Housman of Evansville, Ind., Jean (Paul) Queneau of Golden, Colo., Barbara (John) Meyer of Elgin, and Martha (Rick) Everitt of Sedalia, Mo.; two sons, Paul (Mary) Brekke of Stewartville, and Robert (Karen) Brekke of Byron; three stepchildren, Mary Ann (Larry) Blowers of Savage, Minn., Janice (Jim) Thompson of Rochester and Darrell (Toni) Trygstad of Lakeville, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eunice Hadel of Blaine, Minn., and Marie (Richard) Linville of Russell, Iowa; and one brother, Marvin (Hazel) Scheitel of Rochester. One daughter, two grandchildren; one step-grandchild, two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ranfranz &; Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
