ROCHESTER -- A memorial service for Iva J. Stephan will be at 11 a.m. July 12 at Bell Brothers Funeral Home, Jarvi-Dowd Chapel in Duluth.
Mrs. Stephan, 68, of Duluth, formerly of Rochester and Austin, died Sunday (June 29, 2003) at St. Luke's Hospital Hospice in Duluth.
Iva J. Damrau was born Feb. 27, 1935, in Tigerton, Wis., and graduated from Tigerton High School in 1953. In 1956, she graduated from Methodist Kahler School of Nursing and, in 1958, from Mayo Clinic School of Anesthesia. She began a 32-year career as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Mayo Clinic, later worked at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa, Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea and then at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth until 1991. She served as president of the Iowa Association of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and vice president of the national association. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, traveling and reading.
Survivors include her husband, Philip; three sons, Philip Jr. of Mendota Heights, Minn., Mark (Tierza) of Edina, Minn., and Bruce (Pam) of Waconia, Minn.; and five grandchildren. A son and three brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call an hour before the service at the funeral home.
