J. Hubert Sweeney -- Rochester

ROCHESTER -- A memorial Mass for J. Hubert Sweeney will be held at noon Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Paul Surprenant officiating. The body was donated to Mayo Foundation. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Sweeney, 86, of Rochester, died Saturday (Oct. 19, 2002) at Sunrise Cottages from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Joseph Hubert Sweeney was born April 16, 1916, in Livermore, Humboldt County, Iowa. On Sept. 3, 1947, he married Jeanette K. "Jan" DeWall in Rolf, Iowa. Mrs. Sweeney died Feb. 26, 1994. Mr. Sweeney farmed in the Grand Meadow area until 1967 and then in rural Pine Island until 1991. At that time, he retired from farming and moved to Rochester. In February of 1999 he moved to Karrington/Sunrise Cottages. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Tripp and Sharon Wright, both of Rochester; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Four sisters, one brother and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

Macken Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
