ROCHESTER — The funeral Mass for James DeFrang will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Charlie Collins officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Lake City.
Mr. DeFrang, 73, of Rochester, died of natural causes Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2008) at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1935, in Lake City. Following his graduation from Lake City High School, he went to work for a manufacturing plant and tended bar in Lake City. He later moved to Rochester and worked for Kruse Lumber before going into business for himself. He also did some bartending in Rochester.
He married Karen Banick. They were later divorced.
Mr. DeFrang was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, where he enjoyed working at church functions.

He is survived by a son, Jeffrey, of Savage, Minn.; three brothers, Dick (Connie) of Lake City, Bob (Mary) of Rochester and Ralph (Barb) of Hazel, Minn.; and two sisters, Carol Kane of Rochester and Ilene Holte of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
Friends may call an hour before the service at St. Pius Catholic Church.
