James O. Lindquist — Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE — The funeral Mass for James O. Lindquist will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Gregory Havel officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery, Stewartville, with military honors provided by the Stewartville American Legion and VFW.

Mr. Lindquist, 74, of Stewartville, died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2006) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, following a lengthy illness. He had been hospitalized for a week.

Born July 25, 1932, in Blooming Prairie, he grew up on the family farm and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1950. He served four years in the Air Force, including service overseas. After his service he was employed by IBM Rochester. On Sept. 19, 1959, he married Evelyn M. Opat in Schley, Iowa. They lived in Rochester before moving with their family to Stewartville in 1973. He retired from IBM in 1988 after 31 years. His wife is a former Mayo Clinic employee. They enjoyed wintering in Florida after their retirement. He was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and Stewartville American Legion Post 164. He enjoyed camping, horseshoes, playing cards and bowling.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rhonda (Dan) Schatz of Vadnais Heights, Minn., and Renelle Lindquist of Stewartville; a son, Rick of Vero Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Ronny) Johnson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and a brother, Dean (Doris) of Albert Lea. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. this evening.
