ROCHESTER — A Prayer service for Janice K. McFarland will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel. Interment will be in Ellendale, Minn., at a later date.
Jan McFarland, 64, a longtime editor at the Post-Bulletin, died March 20, 2008, at her home.
Born June 10, 1943, in Minneapolis, she graduated from Mound (Minn.) High School in 1961. She attended the University of Minnesota for four years, receiving a degree in journalism. She worked at the newspaper in Chippewa Falls, Wis., for one year before moving to Rochester. She began her nearly 42-year career at the P-B as a reporter in December 1965, and eventually rose to editor of the Lifestyles section. She retired in June 2007. In retirement, she spent time traveling and volunteering with the library program at the county jail. She also enjoyed reading, her cabin near Ellendale, and wildlife.
She is survived by a sister, Joan Drum of Williamsburg, Va.; and a brother, Bill (Emily) McFarland of Carver, Minn. Other survivors include a niece and two nephews.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home in Rochester.
