Jeanne Isabelle Sawyer — Owatonna

CLAREMONT — A celebration of life for Jeanne Isabelle Sawyer will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Associated Church in Owatonna. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Claremont.

Mrs. Sawyer, 87, of Owatonna, died Feb. 28, 2009, at Homestead Hospice House.

She was born March 16, 1921, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Eugene and Isabelle (Satter) Harrison. She graduated from high school in Estherville, Iowa, and married JD Sawyer on April 29, 1939. They resided in Iowa and Washington before moving to Minnesota in 1951, then retired to Arizona in 1984. Mr. Sawyer died in November 1994, and Mrs. Sawyer moved to Owatonna in 1999.

She worked as a bookeeper for more than 20 years, but her choice of position in life was mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After retiring from bookkeeping, she was a member of the Dodge County Welfare Board, Fairview Nursing Home Board and Claremont Presbyterian Church. At the church, she served as an elder, choir member, and Sunday school teacher and held offices in the Presbyterian Women’s Association.

She is survived by her son, Jim (Linda) of Northfield, Minn.; daughters, Judy (Rex) Brown of Blooming Prairie, Jonna (Richard L.) Johnson of Claremont and Janine (Dennis) Louks of Blooming Prairie; and a sister, Frances Jacobson of Salt Lake City. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Ritter, Steven Johnson, Shalaine Evert, Shawn Brown, Jared Brown, Christopher Sawyer, Natalie Sawyer Fink, Jason Louks, Aaron Louks, Joshua Louks and Arianna Anderson; 31 great-grandchildren; foreign exchange son Miguel Garza of Monterey, Mexico; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, three sisters and a grandson.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Associated Church or Homestead Hospice House.
