John Edward Streiff -- Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE -- A funeral Mass for John Edward Streiff will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Maplewood, Minn. A private burial service will be held in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Stewartville.

Mr. Streiff, 69, of St. Paul, formerly of Stewartville, died of cancer Thursday (Jan. 24, 2002) at his home.

Born Dec. 29, 1932, in Minnesota, he graduated from Stewartville High School in 1950 and from the University of Minnesota Law School. He practiced law in Stewartville and Rochester until 1972 and then was an attorney for the state of Minnesota until his retirement in 1988. In 1952 he married Catherine Brown and they were later divorced. He later married Elaine Sandberg of St. Paul. She preceded him in death. Mr. Streiff enjoyed reading, gardening and camping.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia (Peter) Sandberg of Rochester; five sons, Joseph (Denise), David (Christina) and Thomas (Debra), all of Rochester, Matthew of Red Wing and Daniel (Thomas Jones) of Minneapolis; two stepsons, Jeffrey (Pamela) Sandberg of North St. Paul and Todd (Susan) Sandberg of Stillwater, Minn.; 19 grandchildren; his mother, Viola Streiff of Rochester; two brothers, Peter of St. Paul and Paul (Ruth) of Chaska, Minn.; a sister, Susan Wieneke of New Orleans, La.; and a special friend, Gerry Sorenson of St. Paul. His father preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Wulff Family Services-Crestwood Park Mortuary in St. Paul and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
