ROCHESTER -- The funeral for John N. Rice of Minneapolis, formerly of Rochester, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Timothy T. Reker officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.
Mr. Rice, 76, died Friday (Aug. 9, 2002) at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
He was born June 11, 1926, in Minneapolis and was raised there. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and worked as a court reporter in Minneapolis for a few years. He married Genny Farrell in Minneapolis on Feb. 3, 1951. They lived in Minneapolis until 1958, when they moved to Fairmont. They moved to Rochester in 1968, where he was elected clerk of court in Olmsted County for three years. He returned to court reporting in Rochester after his term ended. He owned Rice Reporting Agency. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a former member of Toastmasters. He enjoyed racquetball and softball.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Michael of Rochester and Joseph of Kellogg; five daughters, Michelle (Niel) Stewart of Minneapolis, Renee Rice of Boston, Laura Rice of Kellogg, Colette (Dan) Wasdahl of Massillon, Ohio, and Christine Rice of Rochester; and 14 grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester.
