John R. Burchfiel Jr. -- Rochester

ROCHESTER -- A funeral Mass for John R. Burchfiel Jr. will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester, with Monsignor Gerald Mahon officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Burchfiel, 68, of Rochester, a former IBM employee, died of brain cancer Sunday (July 28, 2002) at his home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Concordia, Kan. On June 9, 1952, he married Darlyne Desilet in Aurora, Kan. In 1963, he graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for Honeywell for one year, taught at Kansas University for one year, and in 1965, moved to Rochester, where he worked at IBM for 25 years. He was a pilot and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and travel.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John (Rosie) of Duluth and Steve of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Sue (Jim Schoenburg) Burchfiel of Edina, Minn., and Linda (Steven) Rolsch of Rochester; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert (Marge) of Wichita, Kan., Jim and Dennis (Pat), both of Concordia, Kan., and Dan (Marion) of Fullerton, Calif.; and a sister, Mary Lou (Ray) Jenson of Fort Collins, Colo.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday at the funeral home.
