John W. Holty -- Wabasha

WABASHA -- The funeral for John W. Holty will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Covenant Church in Red Wing, with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Bethany Free Church Cemetery near Houston.

Mr. Holty, 56, of Wabasha, formerly of Caledonia and Red Wing, died of cancer Wednesday (May 7, 2003) at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Wabasha.

Born July 20, 1946, in Caledonia, he graduated from Caledonia High School in 1965 and served in the Navy from 1966 to 1970. In 1974 he married Linda Olerud and they were later divorced. He married Ruth Marsolek DeBoer on Sept. 2, 2000, in Winona, and they made their home in Wabasha. Mr. Holty worked for city of Red Wing Public Works Department for 24 years. He was a member of First Covenant Church in Red Wing and Red Wing American Legion Post 54.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joseph of Honolulu and Alan of Bloomington, Minn.; his mother, Arlene (Tikal) Holty of Spring Grove; a sister, Gail (Ron) Modjeski of Dover; and three brothers, Robert (Jennie) of Edgerton, Wis., Arnet (Peggy) of Black River Falls, Wis., and Tim (Donna) of Spring Grove. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
