Jon Volp stopped 33 shots to lead Minnesota State, Mankato past Wisconsin 2-1 Friday in the opening round of the WCHA playoffs.

The win snaps a five-game losing streak in the WCHA playoffs for Mankato.

Mankato's B.J. Abel, who played for the Rochester Mustangs and John Marshall High School, played in his 151st career game, breaking a school record.

Alaska-Anchorage 3

Noah Clarke and Peter Sejna each had a goal and two assists as Colorado College defeated Alaska-Anchorage 5-3.

Denver 4, North Dakota 1

Denver held North Dakota to a season-low 17 shots on goal Friday and beat the Fighting Sioux 4-1.

The Pioneers (21-12-6) take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. The Sioux (24-10-5) have won just three times in their last 13 games.

Minn.-Duluth 5, St. Cloud St. 4

Brett Hammond scored two goals and dished an assist to lead Minnesota-Duluth past St. Cloud State 5-4.

The Bulldogs withstood a two-goal rally from St. Cloud State in the third period. Duluth is now 15-7-2 in WCHA home playoff games.
