Jury selection begins in Hartman trial
From staff reports
Jury selection was taking place this morning in Mower District Court in the trial of a Rochester woman facing stalking and other charges in connection with an incident that began near Bearcat Hollow animal park in Racine and ended in Iowa.
Mary Ruth Hartman, 41, faces a gross misdemeanor charge of stalking and lesser charges of reckless and careless driving and speeding. Hartman has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
Authorities say there was a chase in February 2002 in which Hartman followed a truck that left the animal park, passing through Spring Valley and into Iowa.
Attorneys and District Judge Donald Rysavy spent Monday morning going over some pre-trial issues. The trial is expected to last much of the week.
