Jankovic wins Family Circle
CHARLESTON, S.C. — After breezing through her opponents for most of the week, Jelena Jankovic completed her title run by keeping her shots from being blown away.
Playing amid nearly 30 mph winds with gusts in the 40s, second-seeded Jankovic cruised against Dinara Safina, 6-2, 6-2, to win the Family Circle Cup championship Sunday afternoon before 6,826 fans on Stadium Court.
Adverse weather wreaked havoc throughout the state as the Verizon Heritage PGA Tour event on Hilton Head Island was suspended until Monday. Tennis proceeded as scheduled but certainly not as planned; Jankovic and Safina said they had never played in such harsh conditions.
