Karen M. (Grosenick) Cole — Fort Madison, Iowa

ROCHESTER — Karen M. (Grosenick) Cole, 52, of Fort Madison, Iowa, died Monday (Sept. 1, 2008), following a year-long battle with cancer.

She is the daughter of Gordon Grosenick of Rochester and sister of Julie (Bob) Schinke of Dodge Center.

Karen Marie Grosenick was born Nov. 1, 1955, in Beaver Dam, Wis. She graduated from Rochester John Marshall High School in 1973, and one year later moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she married Jim Cole. They were later divorced. Her favorite joys in life were her family, the deserts of Arizona, the lights of Las Vegas, and the Minnesota Vikings.

In addition to her father and sister, she is survived by two sons, Jeremy and Cameron Cole of Fort Madison; a grandson, Collin Cole of Fort Madison; a niece, Christy Steele of Rochester; a nephew, Tim (Carissa) Frericks of Dodge Center; a great nephew, Jakob Steele; and a great niece, Alydia Frericks. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Grosenick; and her grandparents.

There will be a memorial service and a celebration of life service, both in Fort Madison at a later date.


The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society, a local hospice facility, or Paws & Claws Humane Society.
