Kenneth D. Norland -- Austin

AUSTIN -- The funeral service for Kenneth D. Norland will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with the Rev. Harold Deye officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in rural Oakland with military rites by Lyle American Legion Post 105.

Mr. Norland, 80, of Austin, a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Wednesday evening (July 17, 2002) at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

He was born April 19, 1922, in Paulina, Iowa. He served with the Army military police from Nov. 11, 1942, to Feb. 2, 1946. On March 31, 1946, he married Sally Geer in Rising Fawn, Ga. He was a laborer at Hormel for more than 40 years and served on the seniority board for Local 9. He was a member of the American Legion, National Guard, Eagles Club and Eagles Camera Club. His interests included traveling, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Gwen) of Caulfield, Mo.; a daughter, Marla Huinker of California; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eldon (Ethel) and Roy (Urma), both of Austin, and Paul (Rebecca) of Bloomington, Minn.; and a sister, Beverly (Irl) Madsen of Northwood, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife and a son.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and an hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home.
