Kidnapping suspect shot by police already known to law enforcement

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The man shot by officers in Moorhead after a kidnapping and attempted armed robbery also was arrested in February just across the border in Fargo.

At a news conference, Moorhead police identified that man as 28-year-old Vincent Paul Degidio Junior. He remains in stable but serious condition.

He’s the same man Fargo police arrested Feb. 26 after someone spotted him carrying what appeared to be a gun in a North Dakota State University building.

The building went into lockdown, although it later turned out to be a BB gun. Degidio pleaded guilty in March to carrying a concealed weapon.

Authorities said three sheriff’s deputies and a Fargo police officer shot Degidio on Thursday night after he allegedly kidnapped a woman from Fargo, attempted to rob an auto parts store in Moorhead and traded gunshots with police.

Degidio spent almost nine years in a Minnesota prison for armed robbery and burglary. He was released in mid-January and moved to Moorhead to live with his sister.

She declined to comment on Friday.
