Kiel, Bachman continue record-setting frenzy

Brian Kiel and Kendrick Bachman continued their assault on pool and state records on Saturday during the All-City Meet in boys swimming and diving.

Kiel had an all-time state best time during the meet and had plenty of help from his talented teammates as Century won the three-team affair with 771 points. Mayo was second with 525 and John Marshall was third with 513.

Century won nine of the 12 events. Kiel had a hand in four victories and was part of three pool records in the meet held at John Marshall. The senior’s most dominating performance came in the 100-yard backstroke. Kiel set a state record with a winning time of 49.15.

Kiel also set a pool mark by winning the 200 individual medley in 1:50.14.

The Century boys 400 freestyle relay of Chris Freeman, Mark Strom, Alex Cox and Kiel set a pool mark of 3:14.89. That was a second and a half faster than the pool mark they had set in the event earlier in the week.

Bachman won the 100 butterfly with a pool-record time of 51.52. The John Marshall senior also won the 100 breaststroke in 57.94.

Cox, in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, also had a pair of individual victories. Cox, like Kiel, was also on a pair of winning relay teams.

Mickey Stevens (50 freestyle) and Dennis Draper (100 freestyle) also had individual wins for Century.

Diver Chris White had Mayo’s lone victory.
