The golf season started with losses for both the Lyle/Austin Pacelli boys and girls teams on Monday.
The Lyle/Pacelli boys played a road match against LeRoy-Ostrander at the Cedar River Country Club in Adams and lost 196-to-202. The L/P girls traveled to Rochester and played Schaeffer Academy at the Soldiers Field course, with the result being a 259-to-264 loss.
Jesse Rannells of L-O was the medalist in the Southeast Conference boys meet with a round of 44. Matt Buntje was the low man for L/P with a round of 46.
Buntje posted the only score in the 40s for Lyle/Pacelli. Ryan Fett and Dylan Fett each shot a round of 50 in the season opener.

"Dylan Fett had his lowest score, but we need the other guys to come down a few strokes," L/P coach Mark Buntje said. "It was tough conditions and wet, so the shots didn’t get much of a roll. The course played long and it was rough going on the front nine. We expected to do better, and this was a tough day in losing a conference match to start the season. We’re going to have to get better."
Matt Buntje started out his low round for the L/P Athletics with a par on Hole 1. Then, the junior had three double-bogeys in a row on holes three, four and five. Buntje finished with three pars, two bogeys, and four double-bogeys, which included a three-putt on the final hole.
• Despite losing by five strokes, there were some highlights for the L/P girls in their road trip to Rochester. Emily Leif was the meet medalist with a round of 59 against Schaeffer Academy.
Leif was the only golfer on either team to shoot in the 50s on the day. Jennie Marx had the next lowest score for L/P with a round of 64 in the season opener.
L/P boys and girls golf both play in SEC dual meets against Glenville-Emmons today at the Northwood (Iowa) Country Club.
