The boys and girls golf teams from Lyle/Austin Pacelli played on their home course for the first time this season on Monday at River Oaks.
Lanesboro, the defending Southeast Conference champion, won the boys meet by a 174-197 margin over Lyle/Pacelli. The visiting Burros also dominated the SEC girls dual meet by beating the L/P Athletics 220-278 on the back nine holes.
Cory Strom of Lanesboro was the meet medalist for the boys with a round of 41. All of the scores for Lanesboro were in the 40s. Paige Hungerholt of Lanesboro was the medalist for the girls with a round of 50.
"That’s the first time our kids have ever played the back nine at River Oaks, so it wasn’t much of a home course advantage for us," L/P coach Mark Buntje said. "We played all of our home meets on the front nine last season. I don’t think playing unfamiliar holes made much of a difference, because Lanesboro has a couple of strong teams. Our boys broke 200 for the first time, but they’re still frustrated with always losing to Lanesboro."

Matt Buntje shot the low round for Lyle/Pacelli with a 46, and Dylan Fett was also in the 40s. Emily Leif shot the low round for the L/P girls with a 58 on the day.
"We’re getting closer, but we couldn’t put a full nine holes of consistent play together," coach Buntje said. "It was kind of dark when the meet started but it didn’t rain too hard. Overall, we didn’t have many pars on the day and the boys need to eliminate those bad holes with triple bogeys.
"Emily’s round was okay, but a lot of the holes were too wet. Still, it was a good round for her. If she can stay in the 50s and just shave a few strokes off, then she’ll be ready for the section meet."
L/P boys (1-2, 1-2 SEC) play in the Stewartville Invitational at the Willow Creek course in Rochester on Thursday. L/P girls (1-2) will join the boys for a SEC dual against Houston at Valley High on Friday.
