HASTINGS, Minn. — A Lakeville woman who pleaded guilty in the drowning death of her 11-month-old daughter has been sentenced to six months in jail.
A Dakota County judge sentenced 38-year-old Katherine Bodem on Monday in the death of her daughter, Cecilia, who drowned while her mother shopped for shoes online.
In a rare move, the Dakota County attorney asked the judge for a light sentence because Bodem suffered from mental disorders when Cecilia died in August.
In court, Bodem said she missed her daughter and would have to live with her death for the rest of her life.

Bodem pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter on May 6.
Authorities say Bodem left the infant and her 2-year-old brother alone for nearly 20 minutes before she noticed there was a problem.
