Larry A. Durst — Rochester

ROCHESTER — A graveside memorial service for Larry A. Durst will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Pine Island Cemetery.

Mr. Durst, 70, formerly a longtime Rochester resident, died Saturday (April 11, 2009) at Garden Cottage Assisted Living in Stewartville, of diabetes and coronary artery disease.

He was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Portland, Ore. As a young boy, he moved with his family to southeast Minnesota and attended Wabasha High School. He enlisted in the Navy, and following his discharge married Carlene Gronert on Nov. 19, 1960, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island. The couple lived in the Pine Island area; they later divorced.

Mr. Durst was employed by the Roscoe Center Cheese Factory in rural Pine Island. He married Mavis Heise, and they were later divorced. He moved to Rochester, where he lived for many years before moving to Stewartville. He enjoyed listening to music.

Survivors include two daughters, Gwendolyn (Delbert) Holt of Oronoco and Glenda Durst of Highwood, Ill.; a son, Eric Durst of Rochester; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Tripp of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; a cousin, Dr. Milo Durst; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Anna (Tremper) Durst; and his foster parents, his uncle and aunt Gerald and Stella Durst.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
