Laura I. Beyer — St. Ansgar, Iowa

ST. ANSGAR, Iowa — The funeral for Laura I. Beyer was at 10 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa; the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiated. Burial was in St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Laura Ida Beyer, 94, a longtime St. Ansgar resident, died Tuesday (April 15, 2008) at Stacyville (Iowa) Community Nursing Home.

Mrs. Beyer was raised in North Dakota. She married Julius Beyer on Oct. 28, 1935, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The couple lived on a farm in Mitchell County, Iowa, and moved to St. Ansgar in 1944. She moved to the nursing home in Stacyville in 1998.

Mrs. Beyer worked in the vegetable fields, as well as several restaurants in St. Ansgar, where she was known for her pies, salads and homemade doughnuts. She was also a child-care provider. Her hobbies included making plastic crafts, such as snowflakes and Confirmation crosses. She also enjoyed watching family and friends play ball and croquet in her large front yard.

Survivors include two sons, David (Bonnie) and Wayne; three daughters, Julia Rex, JoAnn Schiemann and Bonnie (Roy) Grimm; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980, a son, a sister and five brothers.
