• The Rochester Arts & Sciences Academy, a pre-K-8 private school under development, will have a fundraising book fair May 11-13 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers. The store will donate a percentage of sales to RASA when customers use RASA vouchers. To get a voucher, go to RASA’s Web site at or call 273-5081. The donations will be used to buy books for RASA’s library.


The Rochester Rotary Clubs gave their annual awards in the Strive program Tuesday. Strive puts academically challenged high school seniors in a mentoring program. This year, 64 seniors from Mayo, John Marshall and Century high schools completed the program.


Scholarships were awarded to the five seniors from each school with the most significant increase in cumulative GPA over the course of the program.

The top prizes — $2,000 scholarships — were awarded to Alyson Lutzke of Century, Shaikh Farhana of John Marshall and Gilad Rosenthal, Mayo.

Other cash prizes went to Cassandra Higgins, Century; Johnny Onsy, JM; Jennifer Mattila, Mayo; Kathryn Thompson, Century; Alla Tageldin, JM; Tiffany Robertson, Mayo; Zhen Feng Liu, Century; Joshua Weatherly, Century; Gregory Mueller, JM; Christina Williams, Mayo; Tabitha Johnson, JM; and Christopher Brumm, Mayo.

In addition, 59 students were honored for having perfect attendance all year.
