MABEL — The funeral for Lelah V. Folstad will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa; the Rev. Matt Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.
Mrs. Folstad, 80, of Mabel, died Monday (Nov. 17, 2008) at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
Lelah Brenna was born Oct. 31, 1928, in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, and attended Hesper No. 6 "Rotvold" School. On July 25, 1946, she married Melvin O. Folstad. They farmed in Hesper Township until moving to Mabel in 1971. She then began working in the kitchen at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home, where she worked until retiring in 1990. She was a member of Hesper Lutheran Church and the Ladies Group, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Good Tyme Quilters, and the QT Quilting Club. She enjoyed scrapbooking, making lefse, helping her children, and being around others, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce (Lyle) Bjerke of Highlandville, Iowa, Mary (Les) Myhre of Mabel, Sonya (Jerry) Gunderson of Baxter, Iowa, and Colleen (Kermit) Meyer of Eitzen; four sons, Marvin (Linda) and Leslie (Nancy), both of Hesper, Dean (Kim) of La Crescent and Gerald (Elsa) of Hesper; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Dewing of Bend, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Julius and Julia (Timmerdahl) Brenna.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church in Hesper.
