LET Columnist takes cheap shot

On Sept. 28, William Safire wrote about how kidnapping/beheading is a new weapon. He detailed why the Zarquawi and other terrorist networks have added this weapon to their arsenal.

He then discusses responsible journalistic coverage of these events. It was an excellent column up to that point …; but then he couldn't resist taking a cheap shot at John Kerry. He criticizes John Kerry for an ad he approved. That ad mentions Americans being kidnapped, held hostage and even behead. All true. Safire seems to think it heinous for Kerry to press his "antiwar" candidacy in this manner.

He calls it a "paid evocation of horror," a political "terrible blunder." Hello? Does he live in a vacuum? How could he miss it in every Bush ad and speech?

Fear and the horror of 9/11 has been the foundation and centerpiece of the Bush campaign from the get-go.
