A few days ago, the Republican-controlled Minnesota House voted in favor of public tax dollars being spent in the building of a baseball stadium. Thirty-nine Republicans voted in favor of this legislation, more than the number of Democrats.
Two of Rochester's Republican legislators, David Bishop and Fran Bradley, voted in favor of this bill, plus their Republican leader, Steve Sviggum.
It was only a few weeks before this event the Minnesota House and Senate debated a possible $2 billion shortfall. I find it amazing that one week Republicans claim they are the defenders of the taxpayer, the next week a majority of Republicans and their leadership vote in favor of $300 million dollars toward a baseball stadium. Is the building of a baseball park a legitimate function of constitutional government? How about a golf course? Lots of people play golf. Are we going to build a $300 million dollar golf course if enough people argue for it?
When legislators spend our money on this kind of waste, they deserve the utter contempt and disdain of the taxpayer. Remember them in November, and turn out for their defeat!
