How convenient and ironic for Farm Bureau and the commodity groups to start a group that calls itself the Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers.
Why ironic? Because in 1995 Farm Bureau lobbied hard for House File 519, the law that opened the gate full-force for hog factories to come into Iowa. That law creatred a domino affect, causing thousands of hog farmers to go out of business and many to quit farming altogether. And it stripped people's rights to sue hog factories for loss of health, property value and quality of life. Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement opposed House File 519 and has fought for clean water, clean air, and a decent quality of life for Iowans. For over 25 years Iowa CCI has consistently supported family farms, and it will continue to do so.
