Many Lanesboro residents will remember April 8, 2002, the same way Americans will remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
While the city and the historic district of Lanesboro did incur a great loss that Monday, rest assured that we will recover -- and come back as a stronger community.
On behalf of the Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce, I would like to thank all firefighters and police officers and other emergency personnel on hand during the fire. Your work and volunteer efforts are much appreciated. I would also like to thank those who have offered their homes to those left without one, those who donated clothing and other items to the families, those who have donated cash to the relief effort and finally to those assisting in the cleanup.
The Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce would like all residents in the tri-state area to know we are still here and encourage you to continue to make travel plans to our area. The bike trail was unaffected by the fire, and bike rentals are still available. The Commonweal Theatre is now presenting "How I Learned to Drive" and has a busy season ahead. The Cornucopia Art Center is open as well as other area businesses. On April 20, 2002, Lanesboro will be hosting the Kids Philosophy Slam.
If you would like to contribute to the relief effort, please send your donation to Lanesboro Relief Fund, P.O. Box 20, Lanesboro MN 55949.
