On the weekend of April 27-28, 2002 the annual Early-Bird softball tournament was held at McQuillan Park to raise funds to help support the Friends of Mayowood, a volunteer group whose mission and goals are to maintain and enhance the interior of the Mayowood mansion.
Thanks to donations from Schott Distributers, Coca-Cola Bottling, Pepsi-Cola Bottling, and McMurphy's Sports Bar, plus the involvement of 46 softball teams, we were able to raise $4,750 to be used for improvements to the kitchen services at the mansion.
Concessions were made available at the park by volunteers from Olmsted County Historical Society representing the Roosters original baseball team. As the tournament director, I sincerely thank all of the above for helping to make this event a truly successful one.
