LET Money for war, but not flags?

I read with interest the article about the students from Central High School in St. Paul who had to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to a picture of the flag on their classroom televisions because they did not have enough flags for each classroom due to budget cuts.

The St. Paul district's recent estimate showed 1,300 classrooms without flags and another 970 without flag holders. In Minneapolis, so far, 19 of the district's 120 buildings have reported that 275 of their classrooms need a flag.

Then on Sunday, on "Meet the Press," Vice President Dick Cheney hinted that the Bush administration would seek more money next year in addition to the $87 billion which will do "for this year" for the war in Iraq.

This is the United States of America, where our flag has always been displayed at the most important events of our history. From the start of the Constitution, wars, the first man on the moon, through 9/11 and the downfall of Iraq. No money for flags -- what's wrong with this picture?
