I read on the editorial page on Oct. 11 that Rochester Public Utilities is contemplating construction of some expensive power lines to import electricity generated at the nuclear power plant at Prairie Island near Red Wing.
I hope RPU is equally as committed to paying for the construction of new power lines to connect alternative energy generation sources located here in southeastern Minnesota. Are the citizens of Rochester (whose municipal utility is so eager to import electricity generated by nuclear fission) also prepared to find a home for the spent nuclear fuel rods piling up at the Prairie Island plant?
Who would like to volunteer a spot in their back yard to provide for perpetual burial of these radioactive wastes?
