LET Saddam started this war

Gary Wallin's July 19 letter to the editor smacks of a blame-America-first attitude. We did not ask for this war! Saddam invaded Kuwait to expand his kingdom and steal its oil supply. Kicking Saddam out of Kuwait was in the United States and the world's interest.

Saddam's aggression didn't stop at Kuwait. Saddam instigated a failed assassination attempt on President George H.W. Bush. Maintaining the status quo, as Mr. Wallin would suggest, did not stop the attacks on September 11, 2001.

The only way to end war is by putting the enemy in a situation more undesirable than what is expected of him. Saddam was not left defenseless; the threat of state-sponsored terrorism needs to be neutralized.
