With some very fuzzy math, David Strom of the Taxpayer's League, tries to make readers of his July 14 guest column believe that we taxpayers spend half of a year's wages on government services and regulatory compliance.
It's a loose and careless way to mislead Americans to believe that we "work just to pay the government's bills" instead of our own. Don't be fooled; get the real facts, then ask: What do I get for my dollar? We will likely find that there is value in good roads, good schools, public safety, a clean environment and caring for people. Could our government be more efficient? You bet, but administrative costs are directly related to the difficulties of being fair and accountable to all citizens. I'll take a fair and accountable government any day.
