LET Traffic safety needs to be focus

I would like to see traffic safety in Rochester addressed by our police department. The high incidence of motorists running red lights in this city is ridiculous!

I know traffic is heavy at many intersections in Rochester, but the blatant disregard of red lights by many motorists and lack of common courtesy to wait for the next light pose serious safety concerns.

If our police department were to monitor the 55th Street exchanges alone and write tickets only for the motorists who run red lights and are not even in the intersection before the light turns red, we could reduce property taxes significantly. It is not uncommon to be waiting at a light and have to wait for four or five cars to exit the intersection in front of you before you can proceed when you get a green light. Maybe this is not of interest to the police if traffic keeps flowing and there are no accidents, but then what is the point of the law?

If there are no negative consequences, some people will continue to push those limits until they meet a constraint. I believe this is what is happening in our city and the condition will only deteriorate if not addressed. Let's make our city a safer place to navigate and restore order and courtesy on our streets.
